Day of the Cross procession (20.07.2008)

This was the second time that th Day of the Cross procession was held. This year’s celebration was exceptional due to the presence of don Antun Turčić, who seven years ago left his post of parish priest here on the island Susak.

The central place in the procession occupies a large replica of the the “Veliki Bouh” cross (Big God). The original cross, unfortunately can not be used in processions, since it is impossible to take it out of the parish church (remember the stories about “Veliki Bouh”.

This year’s procession started at about 8 o’clock in the morning, when the participants formed gathered in front of the parish church in the upper village. Procession then went quietly made it’s way the way of the lower village and all the way to the port. There the priests gave blessing to the fishing nets, boats and yachts, after which the procession set off back towards the upper village. Women on the tail parades are started song, with men backing them up.

Before climbing the stairs leading to the upper village, the procession made a short stop in the well, where a short prier was held. Then the train moving again led by a flag carrier headed toward the upper village. After arrival to the parish church, a celebration of the holey mass began.

In our photo gallery you can see Dino Mirković’s beautiful photos of the last year’s procession. This year, instead of photos I made a video. Two versions of the video are available: the short one is about 7 minutes long, while the long one (director’s cut) lasts about 20 minutes.

Short version (7 min)

Long version (21 min)
